++  Love animals?  Big fan of Nintendogs?

Would rather hang out with Kitty or Puppy than your boyfriend or girlfriend?

Pet Society, a free Facebook game published by Playfish, is for you.  Playfish is known for relatively high-quality casual games offered for free on Facebook and MySpace.  On your Facebook account, go to the lower left corner of your screen.  Click on Applications.  Search for “Pet Society.”  Sign up.  It’s as easy as 1-2-3.

Pet Society is currently one of the most popular games on Facebook, the most popular social network.  Even if you are not an active casual gamer, you will likely find Pet Society to be a fun little diversion and occasional common activity with your Facebook friends.

You get a pet avatar you customize and make your own.  Give him a name and start petting, feeding, entertaining, and visiting away.  Like all social games, Pet Society encourages you to find and recruit other friends from your social network via Facebook.  I have a kitten I named Barney; I gave him orange hair and a purple smile.

Most days, on Facebook, I visit far-flung real-world friends’ pets’ homes in Pet Society.  Playfish does a good job compelling folks to visit everyday.  Offline, your pet will get hungry or dirty, attracting flies, requiring you to visit daily and give him a bath.  He will return the favor with computer love.  Much easier than a real pet or romantic relationship.

An entertaining and low time commitment way to interact with your social network friends and experiment with Facebook games.  Two big thumbs up.
