Coming Soon: Dead Space Extraction ($60), Wii, Visceral, EA

Posted by Appgamr on July 1, 2009

Scared guy hiding behind terrified lady.

Scared guy hiding behind terrified lady.

When I got Dead Space on the PC a few months back, I was told to play with the lights on, during the day.

Well, I didn’t think it was *that* scary.  It’s a dark, life-threatening jaunt into a haunted spaceship filled with vicious tentacled monsters reminiscent of the alien menaces in Alien and Aliens movies.

Dead Space is at the vanguard of a genre known as survival-horror.  Dead Space developers watched a lot of horror movies and studied corpses killed in traffic accidents to tell the story.

Experience this new genre inspired by horror movies.

It’s coming out on the Wii in September 2009.

Coming Soon: Pele in family-friendly Wii game

Posted by Appgamr on June 24, 2009

Ageless Pele in Academy of Champions.

Ageless Pele in Academy of Champions.

Look for Pele in the upcoming Ubisoft Wii game later this year.  Ubisoft’s Academy of Champions features soccer greats Pele and Mia Hamm as competing soccer masters in a Harry Potter-Hogwarts style soccer school game world.  In this Wii game, Pele, the amiable, laid-back legend, mentors kids at a boarding school who want to excel in soccer.

Great way for the whole family to enjoy soccer in the livingroom in a kid-friendly, smile-inducing game play and Harry Potter like storytelling.

Wii Sports for kids with Pele the beloved soccer legend is pure genius.

Natal's "no controllers" is an exciting, intuitive livingroom future

Natal's "no controllers" is an exciting, intuitive livingroom future

The Wii is great, the hottest holiday gift three years running and is the defacto family and women’s console.

However, though Nintendo and other publishers released some nice games, the controllers are expensive and prone to accidentally flying out of your palms and smashing your TVs.  Also, the Wii’s processing capabilities are so last generation.  When you buy the Wii, you’re buying circa 2000 technology at 2009 prices, when you can be buying 2009 XBox 360 or the PS3.

Camera on top of TV analyzes and advises you on your workout.

+  Ubisoft’s addition to the fitness revolution on the Wii platform is a TV-mounted camera that will analyze your body’s shape and in real-time give you workouts targeted to your body’s problem areas.

Yup, for $60, you get a camera and a game that analyzes your body and gives you custom workouts.

Following EA Active’s fitness package and several other fitness-oriented peripherals on the Wii, Ubisoft is ahead of the pack by releasing an innovative custom tool to make your workout smarter and more personalized.  Ubisoft’s Your Shape camera is the earliest no-controller Wii games on top of the no-more controller-just-gesture-with-your-body trend in games.  Read the rest of this entry »
